Will Sc4 Ever Die?

It seems that CXL is a fail, no SC5 coming yet; But will sc4 ever die out? its already been 6 years...

Some suggest that maxis should create a simcity 5, others were hoping for cl to take over. I think it is common talk to speak about how long sc4 will last. SC4 is already 6 years old, quite outdated, but the community continues to grow anyway.
I believe that simcity 4(SC4) will last a couple more years. The mods are still coming, the community still there, and the game is still fun. But even still, I think it will outlive its time in a few years, it will just be too old by then.

hmmm. Yea it does continue to thrive doesn't it? Still in stores too. I hope some developer will actually see what makes a successful city-simulator, and make a good sequel! I hope.

I agree. even if they did, any successful city simulator would still take at least a couple years to create. but like you say, sc4 is still strong!

i bet if EA did release an expansion pack with what we wanted, and making it easier for modders, and wats considered 'impossible' the game would last at least 10 more years. thats my opinion

It depends on operating systems to a great degree. Let's say Windows 7 lasts as well as Windows XP, 6 years. Win7 is backwards-compatible with Windows Vista. So that gives us until 2015 (at latest) until a new transition. Let's say the OS after Win7 comes out in 2015, and gets used for many years, and is compatible with SC4 (which is not implausible).

That gives SC4 approximately 10 more years, at most, before becoming incompatible. I'd say 6-10 years before it dies out.

Thanks for the comments guys! its been a long time since I had this much interest here.
LEO: I agree, I am pulling for an expansion pack, it would be more plausible because it would only take them a few months, and wouldn't really risk making another game that sucks. We should start a project here advocating an expansion pack instead of SC5.(If your interested in doing that, seriously, we can do it quickly.)
