What's In A Name, Pt. 2
Thanks everyone who suggested names, some very good stuff in there! (I would almost consider getting sued by EA just so we could call the game 'AweSimCity'!). But upon due consideration, I've decided to stick with my original idea. Without further ado, here's what I decided on:
Metropolis
Yes, just that! I thought, rather than trying to make up some crazy unique name, why not go with something simple and timeless? Here's all the reasons I think it fits the bill.
-It leaves "Sim" out of the equation. Even apart from all the potential trademark landmines, the "Sim" games were Will Wright's franchise, which he himself has let go. I think we should respect his decision on that and break with the past. Let "Sim____" be Will's legacy in gaming history.
-It's easy to remember.
-It clearly identifies the game as a city simulation title.
-It conveys an image of power, elegance and gravity. Again, while we want to follow Sim City in spirit, I think our new game should have its own, different "feel": A little less cartoony and more serious.
-As a word in common usage it's less vulnerable to IP disputes.
-It's a nod to our friends here at Simtropolis ;)
So, unless someone has a really compelling objection, I am hereby christening this enterprise "The Metropolis Project." Viva!
